In Feb. 2013, Wilkes University announced that it would create a hybrid security force, arming some of its Public Safety Officers. Now, Wilkes has shared plans of a transformation to a fully sworn police department. According to state law, Wilkes must petition the Court of Common Pleas for approval to start a police force. The university will share more details at an upcoming roundtable with local media.
