The Beacon: Female Athlete of the Week Sept. 8 – Sept. 14 Why Jamey Mikovich was selected: Mikovich recorded 41 kills and 54 digs combined in Wilkes’ three contests of the week against Wilson, Keystone and Cedar Crest. Her efforts were instrumental in the Colonels three victories of 3-1, 3-0 and 3-0, respectively.

Position: Opposite Hitter

 

Driving force for your decision to come to Wilkes?

I wanted a school where I could play volleyball but also pursue a degree in pharmacy. Coach Czopek really persuaded me to come here throughout the entire recruiting process.

 

Post graduation plans in terms of a career?

After this year, I’ll be on campus for two more years to pursue my PharmD. From there, I guess it will be to move somewhere warm and work as a pharmacist!

 

Favorite building on campus? 

UCOM, because of Starbucks!

 

What came first? The chicken or the egg?

The egg.

 

Hopes for this season as a Colonel?

I hope that we will be able to make it into conference playoffs.

 

When/Why did you first begin playing?

I started playing volleyball in elementary school. I did a camp the high school team ran every year, and after that the rest was history.

 

Favorite thing to do during practice?

THE game (iykyk).

 

If you had to choose one thing about your program that you could improve, what would it be?

I would love to improve our energy on the court. 

 

Other interests or hobbies off of the field? 

Shopping.

 

Most influential person(s) in your life?

My mom!

 

If you could have dinner with a famous person from the past, who would it be? 

Mac Miller.

 

Favorite professor?

Dr. Roke-Thomas.

 

Coke or Pepsi?

Coke. 

 

Favorite meal to eat on campus?

Pumpkin Roll from the POD – it’s not a meal, but it’s still the best thing ever.

 

A quote you live your life by?

“Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.”

 

What does “Be Colonel” mean to you?

“Be Colonel” means picking up my teammates when they’re doen and pushing myself to be the best player I can possibly be.
