No update on toxicology reports of deceased student

The cause and manner of death for 19-year-old Wilkes University student Jonathan Ratchko are still unclear as of Saturday, Nov. 18.

The results of the toxicology report have not come in yet, but last week’s autopsy ruled out any possibility of suicide or foul play, according to Luzerne County Coroner Office Administrator Mary Wallace.

Ratchko was found dead in his dorm room on Monday, Nov. 10. His death came as a surprise for the community and has been mourned by many students and faculty, including President Leahy himself.

“Since coming to Wilkes, I’ve said more than once that our students’ well-being is of the utmost importance to me and I’m profoundly saddened by Jonathan’s loss,” Leahy said.

“On a more personal level — since I have four children of my own — I know how deeply his passing affects Jonathan’s parents and family. I join the rest of the Wilkes community in extending our comfort, prayers and sympathies to them.”
