Wilkes men’s hockey seniors led the way as the Colonels cruised to a 4-1 win over Misericordia in their regular season finale on Friday night from the Toyota Sportsplex.
The Colonels got off to a quick start in the first period as Carter Jordan beat Mason Jones on his’ blocker side to give the Navy and Gold an early 1-0 lead just 3:19 into the game. Jack Lee doubled Wilkes’ advantage just under 11 minutes later.
Followed by the quick goal in the first, Wilkes continued their fast scoring in the second period, just 1:38 into the frame off the stick of Matt Carlson
In the third period, Cam Lowe netted his 12th goal of the season, once again early into the third period.
For Wilkes, their advantage in the contest was giving Misericordia’s Jones lots of volume, forcing the netminder to move east to west.
Wilkes created several chances to try and put even more on the scoresheet, but Jones’ 40-save performance prevented them from scoring more.
It was a dominating effort at the faceoff dot from Wilkes’ center group as Carter Jordan won 11 faceoffs, Matt Carlson collected a team high 15 wins, and Daniel Nau finished with 13 wins.

Ethan Hollingsworth got the only goal for Misericordia, which was set up at the faceoff dot and saw Hollingsworth roof a shot over the shoulder of Wilkes goaltender Jeffery Fillion.
When called upon, Fillion shut the door, stopping 28 of 29 shots and posting a .966 save percentage on the night.

The group of seniors for Wilkes showed their leadership by all putting together great regular seasons as Jack Lee led the team in points this season with 29 points, Carlson with 28 and Lowe with 21
With Stevenson collecting a win in regulation vs Arcadia, Wilkes will travel to play the Mustangs next week in the first round of the MAC playoffs, with a time yet to be determined.
