The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl 60 champions, defeating the New England Patriots 29-13 on Feb. 8 from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The game started off pretty slow with the Seahawks taking the lead 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The game continued with neither team scoring a touchdown, but the Seahawks kicked another two field goals, expanding their lead to 9-0 at the end of the half.
The third quarter also ended with no touchdowns, but with another Seahawks field goal making it 12-0 to end the frame.
In the fourth quarter, there was action in the end zone when Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold hit his tight end A.J. Barner for the first touchdown of the game, extending Seattle’s lead to 19-0.
On the Patriots’ next drive, they finally got on the board as New England quarterback Drake Maye found Mack Hollins in the endzone making the score 19-7.
After a scoreless drive and an interception by Seahawks safety Julian Love, the Seahawks kicked another field goal increasing their lead to 22-7.
When the Patriots got the ball again, Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon forced an interception that linebacker Uchenna Nwosu took back for a touchdown.
This increased the Seahawks lead to 29-7 late in the fourth quarter. Then, once the game seemed like it was already over, Maye threw the last touchdown of the game to his running back Rhamondre Stevenson, shortening the Seahawks lead to 29-13.
The Patriots went for the two-point conversion, but were unsuccessful, sealing the Super Bowl 60 win for Seattle.
The Super Bowl MVP was Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III. Walker rushed for 135 yards on 27 carries.
He also caught two passes for 26 yards. Walker is also one of only three players with multiple rushes of over 25 yards in the Super Bowl.
As for the Patriots, Maye had to have the game of his life to win this game, but was squandered by the defensive prowess of the Seahawks
Some of it is to blame for Maye, but a lot of the offensive failure for the Patriots had to do with the offensive line allowing a total of six sacks against said defense.
When all was said and done, Darnold finished with 19 completions on 38 attemps, throwing for 202 yards. Jason Myers, who was a contender for MVP made all five field goals, as well as both PATs he attempted.
For the Patriots, Maye threw for 295 yards, completing 27 out of 43 passes and throwing two touchdowns and the two interceptions.
All in all, this is the end of football until the fall and fans are already eager for this upcoming season. As for now, the NFL’s 32 teams aim their sights to the draft, taking place in April from Pittsburgh.
