The Wilkes University Men’s Ice Hockey team has had a solid season past the midway point. However, there have been some bumps in the road along the way.
The Colonels are 11-6-3 overall this season but are 8-6-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play. The Navy and Gold found itself in a little bit of a skid in late January as they dropped three straight games.
However, they are currently riding a three-game win streak since then, with wins against Alvernia, Lebanon Valley and Stevenson.
With five games left in the regular season, the Colonels will be looking to continue their winning ways. In their three game win streak, they’ve out-scored opponents 13-4, with the victories all coming at home.
The three wins concluded their three-week homestand, a run of games in which the Colonels went 3-3. They will face off against Neumann this coming Friday, later following up with contests against Arcadia, King’s College, Alvernia, and then finishing the season off with Misericordia.
Christian Blomquist leads the team in points with 25 points (8G, 17A), while Cam Lowe and Carter Jordan share the team-lead in goals with nine each.
Blueliners Tyler Boudreau and Mason Vonk have continued their solid seasons, grabbing a majority of their playing time on the first defensive pairing.
Goaltender Duncan Rolleman has an 8-3-1 record this season with a 1.86 goals allowed average (GAA) of 1.86. Backing him up, Jeff Fillion has been solid as well, notching more minutes in the past few games, especially with all the back-to-backs the team has played.
The Colonels currently stand third in the MAC standings behind Neumann and Stevenson. They will see Neumann next on Friday which can have standings implications as the Knights play conference leader Stevenson on Saturday.
This final stretch of games are crucial as they are all conference opponents and teams that the Colonels have beaten this season already or have multiple times.
Against the final four teams they take on this season, the Colonels are 6-1-1 combined.
The Colonels will look to clinch a spot in postseason play and compete for a MAC title for the second straight season since Wilkes returned to the conference for hockey.
