The New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Nov. 10, just a day after a blown lead led to a loss against the Chicago Bears.
In parts of four years with the team, Daboll had a record of 20-40-1 over his career with the Giants. After taking the Giants to the playoffs in his first season for the first time in six seasons, the Giants won only 11 games in the next two-and-a-half seasons.
These past seasons were nothing but disappointing for the Giants after leaving the 2023-2024 season with a record of 6-11, leaving the 2024-2025 season with a record of 3-14 and now being halfway through the 2025-2026 season with a record of 2-8, all under Daboll.
Fans of the Giants began calling for the firing of Daboll after the Giants blew a 19 point lead against the Denver Broncos a few weeks ago.
Fans are happy with the decision while others think that the firing was a bit premature. Daboll clearly found the quarterback he needed to push the offense forward in Jaxson Dart.
Even though the Giants weren’t as successful after they lost their running back Cam Skattebo, the product was significantly better than what came out of former QB Daniel Jones, who since has turned into an MVP candidate with Indianapolis.
Ultimately, the firing of Daboll was a result of the lack of wins and the lack of ability to finish a game. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will serve as the interim head coach for the Giants. Giants general manager Joe Schoen still has his job and will be leading the charge in the search for a new coach.
Potential head coach candidates for the Giants include experienced NFL coaches like Mike McCarthy and Bill Belichick as well as offensive minds like Bobby Slowik and Kliff Kingsbury.
Other names mentioned are college coaches Matt Campbell and Mike Elko. Fans hope that whoever takes the job of head coach will bring a change to the New York Giants.
For now though, the Giants will finish the season without top players. Since Daboll’s firing, the Giants fell to 2-9 after a loss to the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 16.
