Scranton Prep will move on in the 3A state playoffs after a 28-21 win over District 4’s Mifflinburg.
Prep received the opening kickoff and drove all the way down the field. As the Cavaliers were about to go in and score, the Wildcats popped the ball out and took over at their own 12 yard line.
It only took one play to get them on the board as Chad Martin hit Landen Murray for a 76-yard touchdown to put Mifflinburg ahead, 7-0.
After another stop on defense, Mifflinburg ran almost the exact same play and Martin hit Murray for his second passing touchdown of the game.
Scranton Prep got on the board when Will McPartland found the endzone for the first of his three touchdowns on the night..
Prep then forced a fumble, with Rickey Dewey scooping the pigskin up, running it back to score. After that, the game was tied at 14 apiece.
To round out the first half, Murray hauled in his third touchdown after a beautiful catch in the corner of the endzone to give the Wildcats a 21-14 lead at the half.
However for Scranton Prep, the second half would be all theirs for the taking.
McPartland found the endzone two more times in the third and fourth stanzas, and the Cavaliers went on to win 28-21 as they held Mifflinburg scoreless in the second half.
Scranton Prep moves on to face Northwestern Lehigh this coming weekend in the next round of the PIAA 3A playoffs. Prep will come into the game with an 8-5 record, while NW Lehigh are undefeated, 13-0.
