With week 11 of the semester quickly approaching, the past week in Wilkes sports also saw the turn of the month, as October flipped into November.
The end of October also saw a few regular seasons end, playoff hopes renewed for one particular group of Colonels, and two squads taking to the ice, as well as a squad taking to the mat for the first time this season.
Oct. 26:
Day two of the Landmark Conference Fall Preview saw both golf squads back in action at the Shawnee Golf Course. For the men’s team, they finished ninth out of 10 teams, posting a team score between the two days (Oct. 25 and 26) of 671. Brady Noone had the best individual score on the team, shooting a 159, finishing 29th overall.
For the women’s squad, they finished tied for fifth out of eight teams, with a final combined score of 803. Kyleen McCance shot a 160 between the two days.
Both squads now finish their fall seasons, with play set to resume in the spring.

Tuesday night saw both of the soccer teams battling for the final time in the regular season. Men’s soccer went on the road to take on Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. However, the Warriors were too strong for the Colonel defense, slotting home six goals to win decisively, 6-0. The men were unable to record a win in Landmark play this year, eliminating them from playoff contention.
The women’s team was at home, also facing Lycoming. After a penalty kick goal from Riley Mastriani tied things up at two apiece in the second half, the Warriors nabbed two goals in the final 23 minutes of play to clinch a 4-2 victory, ending the Colonels’ hopes of making the Landmark playoffs.
Oct. 29:
Now the only fall squad to clinch a playoff spot at this time, field hockey took the trip to Williamsport to take on Lycoming. Two goals from Maddie Karp were the deciders as the Colonels took a 3-1 on the road, clinching the fifth seed in the Landmark Playoffs. They would move on to take on the fourth seed Drew University on Nov. 1.

Women’s volleyball took on the University of Scranton in their Dig Pink Game for cancer awareness. A tough contest for the Colonels ensued as they were swept in three sets to lose 0-3.
