The Wilkes University Colonels’ historic field hockey season came to an end Tuesday night at the hands of the Landmark Conference’s #1 seed in the University of Scranton.
The #5 Colonels lost 3-2 to the Royals in the Landmark Conference semifinals in their first ever conference semifinals appearance.
After a scoreless first half, Wilkes notched the first tally of the game off the stick of Georgia Baskett as she propelled the Colonels in front, 1-0.
Scranton’s Maggie Keys scored with less than a minute to go in the third quarter and the Royals found their momentum.

The Royals tacked two more on the board to take a 3-1 lead in the final frame, with Annie Coll and Keys finding twine less than a minute-and-a-half apart.
Maddie Karp put the Colonels back in the game with a goal at 55:34 to cut the deficit in half and made it a 3-2 contest.
However, the Royals honed in defensively and were able to see it out as they secured a place in the conference championship game.
Chloe Gilroy made 10 saves on 13 shots in the loss. For Scranton, Maclean Thuermer made two saves on four shots.
In total, the Royals outshot the Colonels 22-6, with shots on goal being 14-4 in favor of the home side.
The Colonels finish their historic 2025 campaign with a 10-11 record and 4-5 in Landmark play.Scranton will move onto the Landmark Conference Championship against Susquehanna on Saturday, Nov. 8.
