After the excitement of some of the games last week for Wilkes Athletics, this week was a bit slower. However, most of the teams that played last week were back in action to continue their fall campaigns. From tennis to cross country to football and more, here’s the rundown of the scores from Sept. 7 to Sept. 13
Sept. 7:
The only event for the day was the continuation of the King’s Women’s Tennis Invitationals. Wilkes took home a singles and doubles championship. Ana Savkovic captured the singles title. For the doubles title, it was Savkovic again alongside Julia Spaeth, cruising along and winning all of their matches together
Sept. 8:
No events scheduled.
Sept. 9
Women’s Volleyball were back home, victorious over Penn State Hazleton. In a five set thriller, the Colonels were able to capture victory after a back-and-forth match. Kendra Kalp and Abby Dornblaser each had at least a dozen kills.
Sept. 10
To begin, women’s soccer faced off against King’s at home from Bruggeworth Field. The game ended in a draw, 0-0. Both sides were equally strong on defense, not allowing many chances to score throughout the 90 minutes. Field Hockey was also at home, taking the win from the Monarchs in a 4-0 decisive victory. Men’s Soccer, away from home, kicked things off against Penn State Harrisburg, losing 0-4 against the Nittany Lions.
Sept. 11
After the win earlier in the week, women’s volleyball faced off against New Jersey City University. A match that went the distance in five sets, the Colonels lost in a narrow contest.
Sept. 12
No events scheduled.
Sept. 13
It was day one of the King’s Men’s Tennis Invitationals. The Colonels will have six players moving on to the semifinals for singles and have two doubles groups moving on as well to continue the invitational on Sept. 14. Men’s and women’s cross country competed at the Cougar Classic.
The men’s team finished fourth, while the women’s group finished fifth. Women’s Volleyball traveled to New York to take on Elmira College and the University of Pittsburgh–Bradford. Sweeping both matches in three sets each, the team went 2-0 on the weekend.
Men’s golf faced off against Misericordia, winning by 19 strokes. Women’s golf also competed, taking on King’s and Marywood, getting wins in both matchups. Field Hockey played a tightly contested game against McDaniel College, winning in overtime by a score of 3-2. Women’s Soccer were at home once again, losing a tight game against Lebanon Valley, 0-1.
Men’s soccer took the trip to Connecticut to take on Mitchell College, coming back home with a 3-1 win. Finally, after a Mayor’s Cup win the previous week, football was on the road to take on the College of New Jersey. However, the Colonels were unable to get much going on offense, eventually taking a 3-17 loss away from home.
