Women’s cross country season wrap-up

The women’s cross country finished its season at the NCAA Regionals placing 46th out of 49 teams at Dickinson College Nov. 10.

Wilkes women opened their season at Misercordia where they took third place out of five teams. The Lady Colonels then competed in Lebanon Valley Invitational and placed ninth out of 12 teams. The Lady Colonels then returned to Misercordia for the Cougar Classic where they finished eighth out of 13 teams.

At the DeSales Invitational the women’s team finished 13th out of 20 teams. Three Lady Colonels set a season/personal best time in the 6K race. Rachel Constant had the best time of 28:11. Followed by Rachel was runner Becky Gordon with a time of 28:44.

“It was awesome to see my teammates accomplish this I’m so proud of them” said senior Kirstin Cook.

Wilkes women’s team then set out for the MAC championship at Misericordia University. The women’s team placed 14th overall and saw five runners place in the top 80 as 17 schools and 151 total runners participated in the race.

The last race of the season was the NCAA Regionals where the women’s team finished 46th out of 49 teams. Cook ran a 32:07 in her final 6K of her career.

The Lady Colonels were selected among the top academic teams in the country by the Track and Field and Cross Country Association 2011 All-Academic Teams. A total of 187 schools representing 38 conferences were selected as All-American Teams.

To qualify for the All-American Team, a squad must have cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher. The Wilkes women’s team had a combined GPA of 3.52 in the spring ranking the team second in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
