Field hockey suffers 4-3 OT loss to Manhattanville
The Wilkes University field hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to host Manhattanville College Saturday afternoon, Oct. 6, in Purchase, N.Y.
With the loss, Wilkes falls to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in Freedom play while the Valiants improve to 8-4 and 2-1 in Freedom play.
Kaitlyn Bevans got things started at the 11:12 mark on an assist from Emily to put the Lady Colonels ahead 1-0. After two straight Amanda DeChent goals, Ashley Hahn found the net on an assist from Kerryn Redcay
Seven minutes later, at the 50:44 mark it was Hahn who served an assist to Ashley Ream that put the Colonels up 3-2 with 20 minutes left to play.
Another DeChent score with five minutes to play was all the Valiants needed to send the game into overtime. DeChent found her fourth goal of the day just 53 seconds into the overtime period to give Manhattanville the victory.
Alexis Reed had 12 saves for the Lady Colonels while Amy Hilton had 10 saves for Manhattanville.
Volleyball splits tri-match with Alvernia, Arcadia
The Wilkes University women’s volleyball team fell to Alvernia University 3-1 before coming back strong with a 3-1 victory over Arcadia University Saturday afternoon in a quad-match held in Reading.
With the split, Wilkes moves to 7-12 on the season and remains at 2-2 in Freedom play.
In the first match against the host Alvernia, Casey Bohan led the way offensively for the Lady Colonels with a team-high 19 kills and two solo blocks. Paige Trusty added six kills while Erin Nothstein recorded a team-high 26 digs. Megan Powers posted 27 assists for Wilkes.
Alvernia saw three players record 11 kills or more.
In the second match of the day against Arcadia, Bohan recorded a match-high 21 kills while Paige Trusty added 13 respectively. Megan Powers posted 44 assists while Nothstein collected 25 digs.
Volleyball loses to DeSales, 3-0
Host DeSales University scored a straight set 3-0 win over Wilkes University Tuesday night in Freedom Conference volleyball play at Center Valley. The Bulldogs posted the win by scores of 25-14, 25-7, and 25-20.
With the loss Wilkes slips to 6-11 overall and 2-2 in conference play. DeSales improves to 10-12 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league matches.
Paige Trusty led the way offensively with a team-high 11 kills, while Casey Bohan followed with 10 kills and one solo block. Erin Nothstein posted a team-best nine digs, while setter Megan Powers led the passing game with 21 assists.
DeSales saw four players record six kills or better led by Emilie Baker’s 11 kills and nine digs.
