The Grammy Nominations were announced on Nov. 7. After they were announced many fans took to social media to say that many artists got snubbed from these nominations. Artists like Tate McRae, The Weeknd and Lorde were very popular names for artists who got snubbed. However, the biggest robbery for these Grammy Nominations in the eyes of the fans was Playboi Carti who got snubbed from the “Rap Album of the Year” award for his album “MUSIC.” I cannot agree more when I hear the statement that Carti was snubbed. It was the biggest and most anticipated rap album of the year and it broke records in regard to sales. Here is a track-by-track album review of the real album of the year.
- “POP OUT”: 8/10
Ever since Carti previewed this song at the Wireless Festival in 2023, I have been beyond eager for its release. Watching the crowd go crazy once the beat dropped made me know in an instant that this was a great song for a concert. I remember the day this album was released, I didn’t sleep that whole night because I was waiting for this album to drop. Once it dropped and I heard this was the first song, I was beyond excited. It is the perfect opener for this album.
- “CRUSH” featuring Travis Scott: 7/10
This was another song that Carti previewed in concert. This time it was at Rolling Loud Miami in 2024. I do think it is a good song with great production from Travis Scott. However, the whole song just sounds like a three-minute build up. There was a better version that should have dropped instead of this version, but overall, it is still a good song.
- “K POP”: 9/10
This song was a part of the era where Carti would release songs and music videos on Instagram making fans eager for the release of the album. It was originally named “KETAMINE” and “ISSA SPORT.” There was another version to this song as well, however Carti decided to release the original version which I think was a great idea. I was eager for it to be released on official music platforms. Once it did, I couldn’t be more excited.
- “EVIL J0RDAN”: 10/10
This was another song that Carti released on Instagram and Youtube prior to its release on official platforms. So, prior to its release, I knew the title, and I knew the song. However, when I played this song, it didn’t go to the beat of the song. There was a minute long intro to the song, and it sounded amazing. Ojivolta put the intro that was played at some concerts in the actual song. This intro samples a song that Carti is featured in, “Popular” by Madonna and The Weeknd featuring Playboi Carti. Once the intro was over and it transitioned into the beat, it was honestly one of the best intros I have ever heard. On top of that, the song was also really good. This is one of my favorite songs on the album.
- “MOJO JOJO” : 8/10
This is the first song on the album that I was not familiar with prior to its release. This song contains a catchy beat with adlibs from Kendrick Lamar. This is the first time that Kendrick was featured on the album. The flow is great, I liked the Kendrick adlibs, the beat is catchy, and it overall shows a great performance.
- “PHILLY” featuring Travis Scott: 7/10
This song also shows a very generic performance by Travis Scott. However, I think that it is still a decent song. I just think more could have been done by Travis.
- “RADAR”: 8/10
This was an exciting song for many reasons. First off, the fact that producer, Metro Boomin, produced this song and second because it shows both “deep voice Carti” and “baby voice Carti.” I like how versatile Carti is with his voice and I love the beat that Metro made for this song. Carti rapped so well on this beat. However, I wish the song was longer. Still a good song, nonetheless.
- “RATHER LIE” featuring The Weeknd: 10/10
I cannot put into words how much I love this song and how excited I was when it finally came out. Ever since Carti performed this song with The Weeknd at Rolling Loud Miami in 2024, this has been my favorite song. Carti and The Weeknd each showed unbelievable vocals in this song and the beat that the producer, F1lthy, made for this song is amazing. I cannot choose a song on this album that I could call “my favorite” because there are too many great songs on this album, but this is 100% one of them.
- “FINE S***” : 7/10
This was also a decent song on the album with a good flow and a catchy beat. It wasn’t anything special, but I liked the song.
- “BACKD00R” featuring Kendrick Lamar & Jhené Aiko: 8/10
This song was first previewed in 2024 when Carti posted a snippet of this song on Instagram and since then I’ve been excited for this song’s release. I think that Kanye West did a great job producing this track. I also think that Kendrick had a good part in this song.
- “TOXIC” featuring Skepta: 9/10
The main thing I liked about this song was the dark beat that was used. I liked Carti’s flow on this song, and I also liked that he mixed his genre with UK rap by including Skepta in this track. I thought Skepta did a great job on this song as well.
- “MUNYUN”: 8/10
This is another decent song with a fast beat that Carti rapped well on. It wasn’t anything special, but it was still a good song, nonetheless.
- “CRANK”: 9/10
This song was a great song. From the beat to Carti’s flow, to Swamp Izzo screaming in the background. Every part of this song was special.
- “CHARGE DEM H*** A FEE” featuring Future and Travis Scott: 7/10
I think this song showed a very generic performance from Future and Travis Scott. It wasn’t anything special, but it was a decent song.
- “GOOD CREDIT” featuring Kendrick Lamar: 10/10
Another one of my favorite songs on the album. The beat was amazing, Carti’s flow was amazing and the main thing I liked about this song was Kendrick’s verse. I thought that Kendrick did very well on this song. From the referencing of A$AP Relli and Luka Dončić to the lyrics he used, I thought Kendrick’s verse was one of the best features on this album.
- “I SEEEEEE YOU BABY BOI”: 8/10
I think that this song is one of the most underrated songs on the album. The voice that Carti uses really suits this song well.
- “WAKE UP F1LTHY” featuring Travis Scott: 10/10
This is also one of my favorite songs on the album. The beat by F1lthy was insanely good and the rapping from both Carti and Travis fits perfectly. This song is also very underrated, but it’s still an amazing song.
- “JUMPIN” featuring Lil Uzi Vert: 9/10
The main thing that I like about this song is that the iconic duo, “16*29,” with Uzi and Carti is finally back. Even though the song was pretty short, I still think that this duo showed such a good performance.
- “TRIM” featuring Future: 7/10
This song is kind of basic, but it has a good feature from Future.
- “COCAINE NOSE”: 10/10
Great music, great beat by F1lthy, great rapping, great everything. Fans first heard this song at Rolling Loud Miami in 2024 when Carti previewed this track in concert. Just everything about it is perfect.
- “WE NEED ALL DA VIBES” featuring Young Thug and Ty Dolla $ign: 9/10
To start off, the beat in this song is one of the best beats on the whole album. Carti did well on this beat and the features were also amazing.
- “OLYMPIAN”: 8/10
I really like the beat on this song as well. The way Carti raps on this song flows perfectly with the beat. In a way it kind of reminds me of “Long Time (Intro)” which is a song that Carti released off of his 2018 album, “Die Lit.”
- “OPM BABI”: 6/10
Honestly, not my favorite song on the album. The beat was pretty good, but other than that everything wasn’t that well.
- “TWIN TRIM” featuring Lil Uzi Vert: 8/10
This song is pretty short, but the beat is really good and addicting. Uzi’s verse was really good. This song was basically just Uzi. Carti was missing from this song. The song was still pretty good though.
- “LIKE WEEZY”: 10/10
Again, one of my favorite songs on the album. The energy is really high with this song and there’s honestly nothing to dislike about it. This song also samples Rich Kidz’s “Bend Over,” and I really enjoy this sample. Overall, this song is amazing and it’s one of the most popular songs on this album.
- “DIS 1 GOT IT”: 8/10
Again, another underrated song on this album. This song contained a genuinely amazing beat by F1lthy and Carti’s flow on this song is very good as well.
- “WALK”: 7/10
I also really liked the beat on this song as well. This was another song that was a little too short, but nonetheless it’s still a decent song.
- “HBA”: 10/10
This song was one of the many songs that were released on Instagram as a rollout for the album. It was originally titled “HOODBYAIR” after the clothing brand. Ever since the music video for this song came out on Instagram, it has been on repeat nonstop. I love the beat of this song, the flow, and the lyrics. Although, I do wish it was the original version of this song that was released on the album. It’s still an amazing song though.
- “OVERLY”: 7/10
There isn’t anything too memorable about this song nor is there anything too bad about this song. The song is okay.
- “SOUTH ATLANTA BABY”: 7/10
This is another song that I didn’t really enjoy too much, but after a few re-listens, it’s growing on me. It’s a decent song.
- “DIFFERENT DAY” 7/10
This was another song that Carti posted on Instagram during the rollout. This was one of those songs that I didn’t really care for. The beat doesn’t really fit, but it’s still pretty catchy. I also liked Carti’s lyrics.
- “2024”: 10/10
This was the first song that Carti released as a music video since 2020. After a very long break from releasing any music, Carti surprised us with the release of this video. Ever since then, I’ve absolutely loved this song. I also really like how Carti switches from his iconic “baby voice” to his “deep voice” in between verses. Great song, great production by Kanye West, great everything.
- “BACKR00MS” featuring Travis Scott: 9/10
This was another song that was released as a music video during his rollout for this album. I’m glad this song was released on platforms because it is a really good song.
- “FOMDJ”: 9/10
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this song to be that good, but I fell in love with it on my first listen. Overall, an amazing song to end the album on.
