Make a Difference Day

Volunteers for “Make A Difference Day” worked on houses, mowed lawns, removed weeds, picked up trash, painted porches and power washed in the 400 block of South River Street (just past Academy street).

This event took place Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, a part of Autumn Fest to give students the opportunity to give back to the community. It started at 11 a.m. where students met at the SUB on 84 W. South St. and concluded at 3 p.m.

Volunteers were also asked to complete general home repair such as reinforcing porch railings, stabilizing exterior flooring.

“This is very much like “The Big Event” day,” Civic Engagement Coordinator Megan Boone Valkenburg said. “Clubs are strongly encouraged to participate.”

“Community service is a large component to our university” Graduate Assistant Jessica Short said.

Volunteers were rewarded with a BBQ for their work following the community service event on campus.
