With this year’s Homecoming theme of “City of Lights,” school spirit is going to shine bright on the campus at the 2013 Homecoming pep rally.
The Homecoming pep rally is going to be from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, on the Wilkes University Greenway between the Stark Learning Center and Breiseth Hall and adjacent to the Farley Library and Chase Hall.
Its purpose is to bring together the student body, faculty and staff in one area and rile up the crowd for the football game on Saturday. Students who attend the pep rally will receive a free T-shirt, rally towel and Wilkes tattoo for the game on Saturday.
Student Government is hosting and funding the pep rally and all of the Homecoming events.
“We’re going to have airbrush tattoos,” Kaitlyn Wolfe, Student Government corresponding secretary, said.
Airbrush tattoos is not the only activity available at the pep rally; funnel cakes, carnival-like games with footballs, tropical drinks, a dunk tank and the Wilkes University cheerleading squad will be on hand.
“We met together, came up with ideas and presented the budget to student government,” Wolfe said.
The cheerleaders have some special chants, cheers and stunts planned for Thursday night’s Homecoming pep rally.
“Both last year and this year the cheerleaders have some cheers put together to get the crowd going,” Jessica Baker, sophomore Wilkes cheerleader, said. We have some crowd-friendly cheers and some exciting pyramids to get everyone pumped up.”
