Local festival shines light on homegrown music

On Sunday, May 6, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Wilkes-Barre played host to the 570 Fest. With the express purpose of drawing attention to original independent music in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area, the event brought together 14 bands from an assortment of genres, including metal, punk and folk.

Many involved with the event, including organizer and Silhouette Lies guitarist Rafael Pimentel, vocalized their hopes that 570 Fest becomes an annual event. Half of the $6 admission price will go toward the funding of a compilation CD that will spotlight various local music acts and that Pimentel expects to be made available by the end of the year.

The other half of the proceeds will go toward sending local children to the JCC’s summer camp program.
