Wilkes University has just announced that it earned the 2026–2027 Military Friendly® Schools designation. The Military Friendly Schools designation is a respected, data-driven recognition given to colleges and universities that demonstrate strong support for military-affiliated students (veterans, active-duty service members, and their families) as they pursue education. Wilkes was recognized with silver distinction, the second-highest level, with a score of 21% on the survey. Wilkes was given this award in the category of private schools offering doctoral programs.
“This prestigious award shows that the University’s commitment to veterans, military members and their families continues to grow and strengthen,” said Lt Col Mark Kaster, USAF (Retired). The University earned the Military Friendly® School designation through its commitment to providing comprehensive support services that help veterans navigate their academic experience. This includes a Veterans Affairs counselor, the Wilkes Student Veterans Council, the Veterans Center of Excellence, the Inter-Organizational Veteran Educational Support Team, and the Veterans Memorial Court.
Military Friendly® sets its criteria in partnership with an advisory council of independent military leaders. Ratings are based on survey data, public information, and how well institutions perform in areas like student success, retention, and support for military-affiliated students. The selection of Military Friendly Schools designations includes using a rules-based algorithm and survey data to evaluate institutions. Over 3,200 organizations compete annually for the designation, and Wilkes joins more than 870 other institutions that have received the 2026–2027 Military Friendly® Schools designation.
Wilkes will be showcased in the 2026–2027 Guide to Military Friendly Schools® in the April issue of G.I. Jobs® magazine and on MilitaryFriendly.com. Lt Col Mark Kaster says “We can never forget the men and women who serve and have served our nation. I thank the entire campus community: faculty, staff, and leadership for their support to our veteran community. This team truly makes a difference in our veteran’s lives.”
