For the whole month of February, Kappa Kappa Psi is hosting a supply drive to support Ruth’s Place Women’s Shelter through Volunteers of America Pennsylvania.
Kappa Kappa Psi is a co-educational band honor society, and the Wilkes chapter is heavily involved in local community service.
“Kappa Kappa Psi is built on service, and this drive is one way we can extend that mission beyond music and into our community.” Kappa Kappa Psi’s Vice President of Service Beck Urie noted.
Serving Luzerne County, Ruth’s Place provides social support for women experiencing homelessness and/or domestic violence. According to the Volunteers of America Pennsylvania website, the shelter offers “a safe home, social relationships…and connections to jobs and opportunities to build life skills.”
A wide variety of supplies are needed.
“Even small donations can make a big difference,” Urie said. “Items like soap, shampoo, and household supplies are things many of us don’t think twice about, but they are incredibly valuable to organizations like Ruth’s Place.”
Donations can be dropped off at the boxes inside the SUB and outside the POD (in Stark Learning Center).
Donations can also be sent to the VOA PA center at 25 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18702.
Supplies can be purchased directly through Give Hope Street Outreach Wish List Amazon Registry.
Requested supplies include gift cards, perishable and nonperishable food items, coffee products, bottled water, cleaning supplies, personal care products, sleepwear, socks, undergarments, towels, washcloths, N95 face masks, over-the-counter medications, storage containers, trash bags, journals, planners and pens.
