Several dozen students stood outside of Weckesser Hall on Tuesday, protesting the leadership and transparency of University President Greg Cant. Protestors carried signs criticizing the president, frequently citing, “Cant Can’t.”

In a Nov. 19 email to students, Wilkes University Student Government President Adam Butterwick urged students to join him and other student leaders in protesting Cant’s handling of the university’s budget crisis.
“The University is in dire straits, and I am coming to you all for assistance,” the message stated. “We are in the midst of what could be an avoidable financial and social crisis for our school. The University has consistently come up short in being transparent with our faculty, staff, and students about this budget deficit and how exactly it will be balanced.”
Multiple local media outlets were also on site Tuesday, recording the event and speaking with students.
The protest is slated to last through club hours. The Beacon will report more on the protest as information becomes available.
