Rural Organizing and Pennsylvania State Representative candidate Megan Kocher hosted a food drive and protest at the Wilkes-Barre Public Square on Labor Day..

The date of the protest and food drive were vital for the event’s message because the protest was against the Trump administration and Rob Bresnahan’s vote to cut Medicaid, SNAP, FEMA and more outlets that assist families and individuals across the country who need those resources.
The food drive was designed to help families and individuals who would need those food items to get by due to budget cuts to the resources that Bresnahan and others voted to pass on.
A large crowd showed up for the protest, bringing with them roughly a ton of food that ranged from canned meats to applasauce. During the protest, a line of speakers were given the time to share their experiences using the resources that would be cut.
Kocher kicked off the line of speakers by rallying up attendees and emphasizing the importance of community.
“We are going to come together to support each other,” Kocher said.
The event lasted for two hours from noon to 2 pm, with several attendees bringing signs and coming together to support one another.
