The U.S. News and World Report has again named Wilkes University among the top national universities in its Best Colleges 2023 edition. This is the 19th consecutive year Wilkes has been ranked.
Wilkes is ranked 234 among 440 national universities, according to the report. This is the fourth year Wilkes has ranked as a national university. Locally, Misericordia University was ranked 219.
“Though we are proud to be recognized, we acknowledge that rankings tend to be limited in their assessment,” said Wilkes President Greg Cant in a press release. “As an institution that boasts an average class size of less than 20 students, we put much more emphasis on the personal stories and individual successes we see every day.
“We find that students’ personal experiences at Wilkes, which lead to excellent careers in well-paying jobs, are much more meaningful to graduates and their families.”
Wilkes received recognition for social mobility, which measures how well schools educate and graduate students who receive Pell grants. Pell grants refer to the federal aid program reserved for students with the greatest financial need.
According to the report, with regard to social mobility, Wilkes ranks in the top 20 percent of national universities at number 82 of 439 institutions.
In the same report, Wilkes was also recognized (#205) for engineering bachelor’s-degree programs among institutions that do not offer doctoral degrees in engineering, as well as for its bachelor of science in nursing degree, in which Wilkes ranked 413 out of 681 institutions.
Other groups have also recognized Wilkes for a variety of advancements and successes. Washington Monthly ranked the university 245 among 442 national universities based on what they are doing for the country. Wilkes was also ranked in Washington Monthly’s “Best Bang for the Buck” ranking, which recognizes schools that help students obtain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
Also in recent weeks, Wilkes received the following rankings: NICHE ranked Wilkes in three categories: “Best Colleges in America” (747), “Top Private Universities in America” (446) and “Best Value Colleges in America” (425). Princeton Review also named Wilkes one of 224 “Best Northeastern” schools in 2023.
