On March 21 Joseph Savitz Esq. class of 1948 and trustee emeritus passed away.

Savitz served as a trustee at Wilkes College later becoming Wilkes University from 1954 to 1994 serving as chairman from 1975 to 1978.

Part of his legacy at Wilkes was his sponsorship of the Savitz Multicultural Lounge in the Henry Student Center as well as another room in the Cohen Science Center.

At the 2014 Founders Gala, Savitz was presented the inaugural President’s Medal, the university’s highest non-academic honor given to an individual who represents the ideals of Wilkes University.

Arrangements are being made through the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Wilkes-Barre. Services will be held on March 24 at 1 p.m. at Temple Israel.
