Alcohol Awareness Walk

The Alcohol Awareness Walk 2013 will be held on Tuesday, October 22, at 12:00 p.m., rain date Thursday, October 24. The walk is to raise awareness of the dangers of excessive and underage drinking. The one-mile walk starting at noon from the Greenway to Kirby Park and back. A free long sleeve T-Shirt will be distributed to every person who participates. There will be a Maers BBQ after the walk. Email [email protected] to register by noon Oct. 11.

Flu Shots

Flu shots are now available at the Health & Wellness Services Office at a cost of $20.00, payable by cash or check made out to Wilkes University.  Vaccines will be given during regular office hours, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  There is a limited number of shots available and are offering them on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Blood Drive

Wilkes will hold a blood drive on Oct. 15 in the Henry Student Center in the Ballroom at 11 p.m. – 4 p.m. This blood drive is held through the Geisinger Blood Center. Donors and volunteers could contact Megan Boone with comments or concerns.

21st  annual Taste of Wilkes

Taste of Wilkes celebrates its 21st anniversary as a Wilkes tradition on Oct. 26. The Wilkes community is invited to sample the best recipes from students, faculty and staff. The event will host a themed basket silent auction.
De-Stress Day

With the pressures of midterms coming up, Wilkes will hold a de-stress day for students. This event is planned for Oct. 8 in the Henry Student Center. Students will have the chance to make their own stress ball and relax before midterms start.

Nicole Zukowski is a junior Communication Studies major with concentrations in journalism, public relations and rhetoric. Nicole, a Dean’s List student, is also studying in three minors: History, Marketing, and Women’s and Gender Studies.

Nicole has been on the Beacon staff since her first semester at Wilkes. She has held various positions on The Beacon such as Assistant News Editor, News Editor, and now she is currently the Life, Arts and Entertainment Editor.

Apart from The Beacon, Nicole spends her time as Co-Editor of the Medium, the Department of Communication Studies newsletter and as Co-Office Manager for Zebra Communications, the student-run public relations agency on the Wilkes University campus and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America.
