A cozy breakfast spot in the Wyoming Valley, The Scratch Kitchen has become a popular destination for locals who are interested in hearty and homemade breakfast. Alli and I took a trip to Scratch Kitchen to see what the raving reviews were about.
Immediately upon entering, the restaurant had a welcoming and classic diner atmosphere. The friendly staff greeted us with a smile and pointed the way to our table where we would be eating our meal. After being seated, we were handed our menus and the search began through breakfast foods like pancakes, eggs and homemade biscuits as well as lunch options.
Starting off our order, we decided on mozzarella sticks. They came out crunchy and crispy. The cheese in the middle was Cooper cheese, not commonly found inside mozzarella sticks. It made for an interesting yet amazing taste.
Alli ordered the homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, as well as two eggs over medium. The dish was delightful. The eggs were prepared perfectly; the biscuits were fluffy and the sausage gravy was savory. Paired up with the eggs, the dish made for a warm and satisfying start to the day.
I ordered the Mel’s Diner Cheeseburger, also commonly known as a breakfast burger. It was a burger patty with an egg, cheese and two strips of bacon. Upon arriving at the table, the burger looked delightful and it tasted better than it looked. Although the burger patty itself was slightly dry, the egg, cheese and bacon made up for it entirely.
Although the staff can be a little slow, the atmosphere and the food made up for it. The relaxed and comfortable atmosphere of The Scratch Kitchen adds to the full experience.
Overall, our visit to The Scratch Kitchen was a good one. With great portions leaving us with leftovers and the comforting diner aesthetic, we can see why so many people flock to this restaurant.
