The Sordoni Art Gallery held its annual Bark! At The Gallery on Tuesday, Oct. 30. in the Karambelas Media Center.
The pups were brought in from the SPCA of Luzerne County along with volunteers.
Assistant Director of the Sordoni Art Gallery, Melissa Carestia says she is in the process of working with SPCA to have an event like this every semester.
“We ideally would like to do it once a semester, or at least once a year.” She says. “We’ll invite the SPCA to bring some adoptable dogs to meet with the students.”
This also allows for the pups to socialize with people other than the volunteers. Students and faculty can play with the pups during club hours and spread the word about adoption.
“You guys can come and relax and it also helps to socialize the animals,” Carestia says. “It is a win-win across the board.”
For the future of events like these, Carestia says that it is important to involve the students in everything that the art gallery does.
“We are specifically here to serve the student population for a different kind of classroom,” she says. “You can come, take a look at the art and learn about the contents and how it exists in society.”
Future events with the Sordoni Art Gallery include meditation sessions, an art screening of Persepolis and a paper collage making session.
