A Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist exhibits his work and speaks about his career and the influence of his Hispanic heritage on his work during a one-day visit to Wilkes University Sept. 10.

José Galvez’s exhibit, “Shine,” features photos of shoe shine boys and their struggles, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Henry Student Center lobby. He will lecture at 5 p.m. in the Ballroom.

Galvez has used black and white film to create a historical record of the daily Latino experience in America. In 1984, he was on a team of reporters and photographers that won a Pulitzer Prize for a series on Latino life in southern California, the first Chicanos to win the Pulitzer Prize.

On Sept. 11 at King’s College, Galvez will exhibit photos of Hispanic women, featuring their roles in society as mothers, matriarchs and workers. After the exhibit in the Widmann Gallery, Galvez will lecture at 7 p.m. in Burke Auditorium.
