Homecoming 2011

High school, college—every student’s year begins with the classic homecoming activities.  Wilkes’ 2011 homecoming weekend started off with a pep rally in the Martz gym at 7 PM on Thursday the 22nd.  Here students had the opportunity to play pong to win goldfish, participate in a pizza-eating contest or even ride a bull!  A band played music to keep the atmosphere high-energy.  The Colonel made his rounds, of course, hyping up the students for the weekend ahead.

Friday night was the homecoming dance held at Genetti’s.  The dance started at 6 and ended around 11.  Students were served a meal of either chicken or fish.  DJ Chris Emanski played music that kept students dancing all night.  The court was presented in their fancy attire as suspense grew regarding who would win king and queen!

On Saturday, the homecoming football game took place against Widener University.  All students looked very festive decked out in blue and gold.  The Homecoming King and Queen were finally announced here.  The 2011 King and Queen were Dan McLaughlin, a business administration major, and Christa Filipkowski, a biology major.  Congratulations to the homecoming royalty!  The game got a bit more exciting at the end, and the final score was 35-27 with Wilkes being victorious.

All in all it was a great weekend for students who chose to participate.  School spirit reached a great high for the first time this year.  Thanks to all who helped make homecoming a success!
