Indie Flavour: end of summer recap

Indie Flavour: end of summer recap

Eric Casey, Beacon blogger

Welcome back Colonels! As usual the heat index goes sky high right when we come back to school. So just bear with the hot classrooms a bit longer and before you know it the leaves will be falling and it will be sweater weather. Just remember, sweater weather is better weather!

Anyhoot! There will be some exciting new releases in the coming months, but let’s take a look back at the top 20 best summer songs…in my opinion of course. Also, these are not all alternative.

20. Helicopter ~ Martin Garrix & Firebeatz (this kid Martin is amazing)
19. One Minute More ~ Capital Cities
18. Cardiac Arrest ~ Bad Suns
17. Dangerous ~ Big Data feat. Joywave
16. All About That Bass ~ Meghan Trainor (she brought booty AND Doo-wop back!)
15. Double Bubble Trouble ~ M.I.A. (club banger!)
14. Shelter Song ~ Temples (groovy)
13. Water Fountain ~ tUnE – yArDs (think Annie Lennox meets Bjork)
12. Three Strikes ~ Afrojacf feat. Jack McManus
11. Weekend ~ Priory
10. Beware the Dog ~ The Griswolds
9. Am I Wrong ~ Nico & Vinz
8. Boom Clap ~ Charli XCX
7. Cadillac Girl ~ Only Real (perfect beach music)
6. 90210 ~ The Courtneys (much lo-fi. wow. very ’90s)
5. Latch ~ Disclosure feat. Sam Smith
4. Brooklyn Baby ~ Lana Del Rey  (one of her best)
3. I Wanna Get Better ~ Bleachers
2. Fancy ~ Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX (anytime you see me I’m probably singing this)
1. Riptide ~ Vance Joy  (feel good song of the year)

Next Wednesday 3-5 pm I’ll be resuming my radio show once again on Wilkes’ very own 90.7 WCLH! The show is “Indie Flavour.”  My new co-host this semester is Shaun Pierre.  We’ll be playing the best new (and sometimes old) alternative, indie, & folk music.  Check the Facebook page and like us for more updates!
