Study Break Party

Wilkes University’s Inner Residence Hall Council will be throwing a Study Break Party on Dec. 10 in the Student Union Building for all students who need a disruption from studying for finals.

Although the event is still in the planning stages, members of IRHC decided on a 90’s theme. The club has since split into committees—food, decorations, entertainment, and novelties—and begun brainstorming lists of what students can expect to see at the event.

“You can expect to see lots of things we did in our childhood,” IRHC’s treasurer and head of the food committee, Corie Clark, said. “No activities have been confirmed, but we have lots of good ideas including a DJ playing all those great 90’s songs from the Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, Britney Spears, and others.”

“We are hoping to have many foods and activities that we all enjoyed in the 90’s,” IRHC’s vice president and head of the entertainment committee, Mary Olson, said. “Like sand art, spin art, candy necklaces, pizza, fun-shaped chicken nuggets and many other things.”

Study Break Parties occur once per semester during final exam week. For past parties, themes have included Fiesta, a Mexican-style party; Willy Wonka; Luau, a Hawaiian-themed party; and Winter Wonderland to name a few. Each party required unique planning according to its theme.

“A lot more planning has gone into this Study Break Party,” Olson said. “Because we are really trying to make it more fun for the students, especially since this year’s theme is the time we grew up in.”

Both Olson and Clark urge students to take a break from their studies and stop by the SUB on Dec. 14 for free food, fun, entertainment, and a keepsake item straight from their childhoods.
