On October 22nd, 2025, Student Government met to discuss a few club recognitions along with a fund request.
The Student Government Treasurer’s report began the meeting with a budget of $28,347.68.
Dr. Greg Cant, the President of Wilkes University was the first speaker of the night, addressing board members with information on the recent budget of the school. Dr. Cant told the board that Wilkes prioritizes student life first. Cant wanted to assure the students that faculty members who are in charge of the budgets do everything in their power to ensure that they are used to benefit students. Dr. Cant also expressed that there should be no major changes to student life.
Turning Point USA (TPUSA) at Wilkes was the first club to present. Dylan Clark, the President of the chapter came in for week two of the presentation, in hopes to get the chapter recognized by Student Government, as well as to receive funding from the university.
After careful consideration and a long discussion, members of the board were ultimately conflicted as to where this club stands as far as benefiting the students on campus.
The biggest concern for a majority of the board was the rhetoric that TPUSA brings to college campuses, along with the controversies surrounding the organization. In the end, the board came to a decision in which TPUSA at Wilkes will not be a Student Government recognized club. Therefore, they will not receive funding from the University.
Moment of Magic presented as the second club, asking to also be recognized by Student Government for funding. Moment of Magic is a national organization that sends members of each chapter to children who are sick and medically vulnerable. The board members discussed and will decide next week if the club will be a Student Government recognized club.
Michael Santini, Student Government Treasurer, presented for week 2 of 2 with Casino Night. The event will take place over the span of three nights, with the last night being the biggest event (Casino Night). The board decided to fully allow the amount asked.
The meeting wrapped up after committees met, and will meet again next week, October 29th, 2025.
