Rap artist B.o.B will be making a visit to Wilkes-Barre Nov. 1 to perform at the Kirby Center Downtown.
Ben Eaton, Wilkes University Programming Board Big Events chairman, has been dedicating his time to making this fall concert happen.
“We started the process back in June,” he said. “This year is the first year for me as Big Event Chairman, so I was trying to figure out everything the position entitled. Big shout out to Melissa Howells, Kayla Cauthon, and Lindsey Coval, for all for their help.”
Eaton said the group surveyed students to find out what genre they were interested in having for the concert.
Country music won the initial survey, Eaton said. From there they put together a list of musicians they might want to contact for the Fall Concert.
“We put the list on Facebook and Twitter and Lee Brice ended up winning for the country singer survey,” Eaton said. “He declined our offer due to an already busy concert schedule, not wanting to add anymore shows this year.”
A second artist was unable to perform.
“Jason Mraz was placed on a third survey to see how well the student population would like to have him appear at Wilkes,” Eaton said. “The amount of support for him was tremendous and surprised us all. We were a week away from announcing him to the student population when we received a call from our agent.”
However, Mraz hac to cancel some of his shows because he was working on an album and had pressure from his record company.
After one more survey by email and through the SUB wars, the Big Event settled on B.o.B.
“It has been a long process in bringing this name to our campus,” Eaton said.
Tickets are on sale daily in the SUB from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 25.
“Speaking on behalf of the entire board, we hope for those of you attending, you enjoy the show,” Kathryn Roshong, Wilkes University Programming Board PR chair, said.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m. Students can purchase up to two tickets at $15 each and then purchase an additional four tickets at $35 each. Staff, faculty and alumni can purchase up to two tickets at $25 each and then an additional four tickets at $35 each.
